Amy’s Story

I was the youngest child in what can be best described as a fractured family. We weren’t Christians. My parents divorced when I was 3 and my father passed away when I was 6. My siblings and I all went in different directions.

Years later, I found myself in a divorce after 17 years of marriage. After the divorce once my kids were grown, despair and loneliness crept in. I felt so alone, I could barely stand coming home to a quiet lonely house. It was in the deepest darkest moments I turned to Christ. A devout lifelong friend encouraged me to take an interest in church. I must have been her ONE!

At first I went to the church near my house. Eventually at the invitation of a friend, I walked through the doors of Compassion Christian. I grew to love everything about this large, yet inviting church.

As Easter approached, the sermons prepared me to recognize Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I wanted my children to be there when I was baptized and watch what I believed would be the most important moment of my life. Easter 2014, I was dressed in my Sunday best and listening to Cam ask the congregation who wanted to put their faith in Jesus.

I was the first to walk over to the pool and be baptized. The smile never faded from my face as I glanced at my loved ones in the audience - not even when I had to walk outdoors to the reception room and it was freezing outside! The smile was etched onto my face until it hurt!

The T-shirt I wore said “BRAND NEW” - and my brand new life began. Now, compassion, love and empathy are with me, always. There is a peace and joy and calmness that envelopes me like a cloak against loneliness and uncertainty. I have such a deep connection with Christ. People often remark how sweet, kind and compassionate I am and of course I tell them it is because of my relationship with Christ. I am forgiven; there are no burdens to carry.
