Cena’s Story

This is how Cena McEleney describes what the Lord has done in the past year in her life, culminating in her baptism on the Friday of Easter weekend this year: “God has stepped into a ridiculously messy situation and has brought such blessings and good out of it.”

Here is the rest of her story: “I grew up in a Christian family, but during my teen years my family stopped going to church. After that I went occasionally with friends and sometimes on Sundays during basic training with the military.

“It wasn't until I hit rock bottom during a legal separation from my husband, when I became pregnant again, that I finally found myself going back to church and trying to create a Christian lifestyle for me and my family. It has been one year now that we have been faithfully going to church and God has blessed us in countless ways.

“Compassion Christian has provided me with a great life-changing experience. I am seeing changes within myself and my family. I see my son praying on his own without being prompted and asking his friends to pray with him before they eat their candy. Compassion Christian feels like home and I feel like I have finally found a church that does not judge but accepts everyone. I feel like the sin is judged and not the person.

“I also feel welcomed and I love attending the services. Due to my difficulties I had to utilize the Lighthouse resources. It was great to be able to receive help and know that people cared. Now I am slowly getting back on my feet and I try to participate in the Bumper Bag Weekends, as well as giving donations to the Lighthouse. I have also tried to collect things from neighbors to take to the Lighthouse. I have seen and experienced the great things the Lighthouse is doing and I am trying to give back to help others.”
