Hannah’s Story

I was raised in a conservative Christian family. My dad worked to support us and my mom stayed at home and home-schooled the seven kids. My dad was the youth pastor and my mom volunteered with the elementary kids. I learned to love God as a child loves his father.

When I was 15 we moved to Utah. I got my first MySpace page and was introduced to the world outside of church and homeschool through playing poker online. I met my first boyfriend when I was 17, and he introduced me to pot and sex. For the next five years I lived a life that was completely unfaithful to how the Bible had taught me to live.

I was living in Baltimore when I met my now husband. We quickly got serious in our relationship and moved in together. Shortly after moving to Savannah we both felt a strong desire to go to church.

We started going to Compassion Christian Church because Dan had gone there as a child and it was the only church in Savannah that offered a Wednesday night service. The messages were real and applicable to our lives. It felt like every message we listened to was directly related to something we had been dealing with or were talking about dealing with that week. I learned to love God in a different way than I had as a child – a more mature way. So I got re-baptized, and we decided to become church members.

That night Pastor Cam talked to my now husband about one of us moving out until we got married. We had known we were living in sin, but up until that point it had never felt like a problem. From that point forward we were abstinent and slept in different rooms. When a separate place became available for me to move to we jumped at the opportunity, and I moved out about a month and a half before our wedding.

Christ has blessed my life incredibly since I have come back to Him. I notice that I’m more trusting and open to people. Jesus has blessed our marriage, and Dan and I both feel Him moving in our lives. We are open to everything he has planned for us!
