Jen’s Story

I was born and raised in church and have always believed God existed, but I lived a very ‘secular’ life in terms of the things I would say, watch and do. I’ve suffered from self-doubt and depression for as long as I can remember. I accepted Christ because I was scared of going to hell, but I’ve never been comfortable with my motivation for that decision.

On Christmas Eve I contracted salmonella. It took weeks to determine what was making me sick, and it was months before I had fully recovered. During that time I struggled with anxiety, appetite loss, sleepless nights and depression. I knew God wanted a closer relationship with me, and after talking to a good friend, I gave my life to Jesus and was baptized.

The closer my relationship with God became, the more it felt like Satan was attacking me. But God gave me a great support system through Compassion Christian and walked through it with me, just like He promised He would.

After my baptism I felt like I was starting a new life. I still have struggles, but I know that God is always with me. I feel that it’s important for me to show God's love through my actions to others, which is something I have been working on. My Life Group has helped me grow in my faith so much, as have other women’s ministry classes and conferences. God has perfect timing and placed me in each class when I needed to be there.
