Kristen’s Story

I came to know Jesus Christ and was baptized at the age of 9. I was very involved in church. I went on mission trips, sang in our worship group and loved being a part of God's family.

Around the age of 13, I started to think that I had to look a certain way. I started dieting, which led to not eating at all and then developed into a full blown eating disorder, which I have battled with ever since.

When I got married, I thought life was going to be fun and great. Bu then reality hit. We had four kids all under the age of 3. I was very busy with church activities. I attended bible studies, the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group and sang in the worship band. But what people didn't know was that I had a very strong spiritual battle brewing inside.

Then my husband, who is in the army, was relocated to Hawaii. Great, right? I was at my weakest when we were there. I was hospitalized four times for my eating disorder, depression and self-harm. In September 2014 I overdosed. I had to be resuscitated three times and was on a ventilator. My chances of making it were slim to none, but God had bigger plans for me! I survived and know I am still here for a reason: To tell others who are struggling, to tell my story.

Since September 2014 I have been a work in progress. I rededicated my life to Jesus, and I lean on Him every day. Every time I feel that spiritual battle brewing, I am now not ashamed to call out to Him for help. I feel more secure and comfortable in my relationship with God and want so badly to help others. I am still a work in progress, but I feel stronger in my faith every day!
