Jane’s Story

Sometimes when we choose compassion, we discover opportunities for ministry that we never knew existed, and we can’t wait to find out more.

Jane Hixson, an accounting assistant at Compassion Christian Church, explored several ways to show Christ’s love in response to the church staff’s Compassion Challenge. She said God had been preparing her to serve at the same time that the challenge was issued: “I had been making a concentrated effort to slow down and look around and ask the Lord what He wants me to see. When the opportunity came up for us as a staff to participate in the Compassion Challenge it was right on time!”

Jane jumped right in, helping out with the Fall Festival at the Highland Woods trailer park and touring the Living Vine Christian Maternity Home and meeting the leaders and girls. The impact of both glimpses of ministry was tangible. “I feel this process affected everyone who participated and has given us a desire to look beyond ourselves to our community to what we can do. I am grateful for the opportunity I had and am looking forward to what God leads me to do next,” Jane said.

The old saying about God not being able to steer a parked car comes to mind. As we make time to choose compassion, it could begin a lifelong habit of loving and serving others. There’s no telling where we might end up!
