What’s Happening - Compassion Update

Published on Feb 5, 2014

The Compassion Christian campus in Statesboro is right on the verge of seeing significant changes and transitions take place. Our campus has just reached ONE year of leading people to a life-changing connection with Jesus Christ! Over the course of that year, we have been meeting in an elementary school near one of Statesboro’s major parks – Mill Creek Park. Families have found community, children have made friends, and people are seeing Jesus for who...

Is Christmas Safe?

Published on Dec 23, 2013

Is Christmas safe; is this most wonderful time of the year, this glorious celebration, this miraculous, sacred event safe from becoming just another holiday, another long weekend, just another birthday?  Over the years I have found that it is very easy for me to take something that at one time brought me to my knees and turn it  into something ordinary, something expected; I take the truth of God and because of my own...

Where is the Flame?

Published on Mar 7, 2013

Lately, a particular illustration has been capturing my mind. I heard it from a pastor years ago at a leadership summit: "The driving question is more than 'Are you running hard?', but rather, 'Are you running hard for the right purpose?'"

In 1996, the Olympic games were held in Atlanta, Georgia. However, the flame that would eventually light the torch at the Olympic Stadium began its journey in Greece, making its way across that...

5 Great Worship Albums and Why

Published on Jan 21, 2013

It was the fall semester of my sophomore year of college and I was making the eight-hour trek back to school in Knoxville from Savannah. I remember these drives being extremely lonely, and this time in particular it was so tough to leave Savannah and  my girlfriend (now wife) and continue our long- distance relationship.

As I was wallowing in my own self-pity, a song by Brian Johnson came on...

3 Disciplines for Your Daily Scripture Reading

Published on Jan 9, 2013

Reading Scripture has brought depth and insight into my life year after year. However, I often feel as though I am caught in a paradox of sorts. On one hand, I try to stick to a daily schedule of reading Scripture and reflecting on it. Yet, on the other hand, I can begin to feel like I am stuck in a mundane routine. This poses a problem for me.

Showing Compassion to our City

Published on Oct 30, 2012

Last month we had such an amazing night of worship. On October 21st, the Compassion campus came together to focus on worshipping and praying for the ‘Boro.’ It has been a long time coming and finally we get to meet in a space that has four walls!

Our weekly services will begin in just a few weeks (Dec. 2nd!), and already we have seen and heard some great stories....

Enjoy the Process

Published on Jul 26, 2012

As we are growing closer to launching this campus there will be a lot of planning going on within our ministry team.  We have had meeting after meeting about how to execute this launch in the most effective, methodical and kingdom-focused way and we really feel like we are gaining a clear vision and direction for the next six months.  While the end result is important, I think it is sometimes...

Finding Freedom

Published on Jul 16, 2012

The longer I walk with Jesus, the more I enjoy and truly embrace the counter-intuitive nature of the gospel.
There are paradoxes in our faith that, because of our humanity, we simply must wait for greater understanding.

Rather than holding to the thought that seeing is believing we understand that believing is seeing. And, the greatest display of Christ's power is seen in His greatest act of humility.

Worship Matters

Published on Jul 10, 2012

As a worship leader, I am constantly wrestling with the question, “why does worship matter?”

As I’ve interned here with the Compassion Christian Church launch team my view of Worship has deepened. Worship is not a once a week event or a scheduled time frame.  True worship is constant, life-changing and empowering.  It's a lifestyle.

Worship is the choice we make when we...
